When is the Illinois whitetail rut?
The peak rut in Illinois typically falls between November 5 and November 20, depending on the year and latitude. Northern Illinois peaks slightly later than southern Illinois. The seeking phase (pre-rut scraping) begins around October 25. The lockdown phase can be frustrating but the chasing phase (November 5–12) is the most exciting time to be in a stand.
